Before hiring Inés, my biggest concern was that there would not be a clear structure to our lessons. Given that I have never had any formal schooling in Spanish and only know the public school curriculum of teaching a language, I thought my progress might be slow and that no clear path towards fluency would exist. Seeing classmates go through 5 years of Spanish and still not attain a working fluency, I did not know how much progress to expect out a few months of lessons. However, Inés clearly gives much thought and consideration to the way she conducts her lessons. She did an expert job evaluating my current level of fluency and creating lessons plans based off my strengths and weaknesses. This is where I believe that much of the value in paying for Inés’ tutoring comes from, as I feel that each lesson is tailored to my learning style and level of competency. Today, I have confidence that while having Inés as a tutor I will be able to attain the level of fluency that I desire.
My favorite part is that the work we do is tailored to my strengths and weaknesses. Each exercise or activity that we do all feels intentional and done with purpose rather than it being taken off some standard curriculum. The perks of this is that I can give feedback as to what I think of the exercise, saying whether I believe I learned effectively from an exercise or not. I know my own weaknesses as well, and with Inés I feel comfortable requesting specific exercises or activities that I learn the best from. I never have the feeling that I’m in “school”, or learning with a one-size-fits-all approach.
I would tell anyone thinking of booking lessons with Inés that I have learned a lot through our lessons, but that it takes time a patience. There was a period in beginning where it felt a little slow because we were figuring out my level of fluency. I have seen the results that I wanted to see and Inés' lessons have been an extremely worthwhile investment of my time and money. Highly recommend!

I contacted Inés Ramos this summer to help me learn travel Spanish in preparation for an upcoming trip to Spain. A typical “monolingual American,” I studied French in high school and had little formal exposure to Spanish. Inés taught me many helpful expressions and vocabulary I would need as a foreign tourist: making simple conversation, ordering in a restaurant, purchasing a train ticket, etc. Inés also helped me with my pronunciation to make me more comfortable speaking Spanish and created customized documents with helpful phrases. She also created brief weekly homework assignments for me to practice and review what I had learned each week. Equally important, Inés took the time to inform me of important practical and helpful information as a tourist in Spain.
As a teacher, I fully appreciate the time and effort Inés put into creating written materials in preparation for our lessons and her offers to answer questions I had between lessons. Finally, Inés was kind, enthusiastic and encouraging as I worked my way through each lesson. I recommend Inés to people looking to learn Spanish for the first time or to refresh their skills in preparation for a trip to a Spanish-speaking country. I am grateful to Inés for her knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm. Muchas gracias, Inés!

To whom it may concern,
I am writing this letter of recommendation for Inés Ramos Pérez, who was our private teacher from October 2015 to December 2016. Inés gave my wife, Nuria G. R., and me English lessons continuously during that period, and also taught my sister-in-law, Aitana G. R., during the first six months, until Aitana moved to London in March 2016.
We chose Inés as our private teacher for two reasons: she had good references, and she lived in our neighborhood. Our goal was to take the IELTS exam sometime during 2016, and get intermediate grades. My wife needed a minimum score of 4.5 to become an English teacher at the nursery school where she works. I work as a software engineer for Blue Indico Investments (a BBVA subsidiary), and needed a competent command of English to understand programming and UX manuals, books, videos and conferences.
Inés is a professional, reliable and devoted teacher, and also sweet and friendly as a person. Her explanations were structured and clear, and the lessons were entertaining and varied: she would use different materials and tools so that no two sessions were the same. We practiced reading, speaking, listening and writing English, and did fun activities like role-playing and debates. She planned each of our lessons in advance, and always made sure she chose topics that we find interesting to use in class. She sent us weekly homework via email so that we could practice what we’d learned on the previous lesson and strengthen it. Her way of grading homework and practice tests was very effective, as she always focused on our achievements more than on our mistakes—while at the same time making sure we got everything right— which motivated us to go on learning.
We took the official IELTS exam in December 2016, and the results were excellent. My wife scored a 5.0, and I scored a 5.5, which was more than what we needed to improve our careers. Thanks to her grade, my wife got her promotion at work and is now officially an English teacher at her nursery school. As for me, I can now demonstrate my command of the language at work, and I also feel much more competent in my daily life. I speak English much more fluently, and I’m able to understand spoken and written English much better: I read more books in English, no longer need Spanish subtitles when watching movies and TV shows, and generally feel much more confident in the language than ever before.
Besides the knowledge, and great IELTS scores, that we acquired after 14 months of lessons with Inés, we have also gained a good friend. The initial teacher-student relationship developed gradually into a close friendship that persists still today, thousands of miles apart. We talk every week; she sometimes sends us stories in English for our young daughters, and we sent her a gift for her wedding.
We highly recommend Inés as a language teacher. She is a knowledgeable, patient and skilled teacher, and we can attest to her ability to improve her students’ competence while keeping them motivated.
